There isn’t a consensus best commercial from Super Bowl LV, but “Whip It Out” might be the worst. You may have missed the cringe when it aired before halftime as you were getting ready for “ladies and gentlemen… the Weeknd,” but the 30-second ad for CURE Auto Insurance is being criticized for making light of workplace sexual harassment.

Two co-workers, one male and one female, march into their boss’ office, where the female employee says, “Tommy just brought me into his office and whipped out his opinion.” Tommy claims he “didn’t just whip it out. Michigan average car insurance rates drop significantly, but still among highest in U.S.

Months after Michigan’s new auto insurance laws went into effect, average car insurance rates have decreased substantially — but it’s still one of the most expensive places to insure a car, a new analysis found.

The Zebra, a national auto insurance comparison site, calculated average costs of purchasing car insurance in zip codes around the country using publicly available rate data between September and December 2020 for its 2021 State of Auto Insurance report.

The analysis found Michigan’s car insurance rates dropped 18% statewide and 19% in Detroit, where drivers have historically paid some of the highest auto insurance costs in the country. Michigan’s statewide average — $2,535 per year — still clocked in far higher than the national average of $1,483 per year, and with an average of $5,072 per year, Detroit still posted the highest average car insurance rates in the U.S.

Cure auto insurance Super Bowl commercial just raised the bar for tone deaf ads

The Cure Auto Insurance Super Bowl commercial is hands-down the worst Super Bowl ad of 2021. It’s one of those spots that will likely become instantly despised — even by people who never heard of the company before.

The premise is simple, and stupid. A woman (who doesn’t even get to have a name) brings an idiot named Tommy into her boss’s office to explain that Tommy brought her into his office and “whipped out his opinion” — except that Opinion is said in such a way that you can tell it’s supposed to be a place-holder for something you should never show your coworkers.

In case you didn’t get the terrible joke, Tommy then says “she was into it” and brags that he has “a pretty big opinion.”
